QUAILS! QUAILS!! QUAILS!!!.
QUAILS! QUAILS!! QUAILS!!!.
Quails are easy to raise as they require little space and are easy to handle. The birds consume less feed but have high feed conversion ratio, with high laying intensity. The quail birds though small are money making
machines, every part of them yields money.
The birds can be raised for meat, table eggs, fertile eggs, their waste can be processed and sold as fertilizer, and the feathers can also be processed and used as ornaments. Let’s look at the various stages: the females start laying about 6weeks,
Let’s assume you keep 300 birds, they will lay 300 eggs a day that is 10 crates a day. This egg laying intensity is to our advantage, as the bird’s consume 25g of feed/day.
The birds can be processed at about 8 weeks; they can be smoked and packed for sale.
Quails are raised in house or out in the yard. The cages can be wooden or made from iron. The floor is made of wire so that droopings are collected under the cages. The floor is slanted so that eggs are rolled to the front of the cages for easy collection.
The birds are given good quality feed and water is made available always.vitamins and minerals can be added to the water once a while, but this is of utmost value in hot weather. The birds can be given worms and some green as supplements to the feed.
Home cooking for dogs is now the in thing because of the rise in rate of pet food recalls. However some dog lovers have been cooking for along time to ensure food safety and growth of their pets.
Home cooking has numerous advantages such as availability, freshness, safe, cheap and no chemical additives. The home cooking has an added advantage if you have a dog with special needs such as liver disease, kidney disease, obesity and cancer, the knowledge of nutritional impact on these conditions are vital.
Home cooking can be fun if well planned; here is a fast recipe for your dog.
Noodles and eggs.
BOIL NOODLES AND SET ASIDE.
PREPARE THE EGGS, COULD BE BOILED OR FRIED.
THEN MIX THE EGG WITH NOODLES AND SERVE OR CUT THE BOILED EGGS UP IN CUBES AND MIX WITH NOODLES.
Coccidiosis a common disease of poultry caused by the parasite Eimeria of various spp. The Eimeria spp, affects the intestines of birds, some species affect the caeca and others the small intestine.
Chicken affected by coccidiosis show varying signs depending on the type of the organisms that are affecting the birds. Birds are generally in bad conditions, depressed, blood in droppings, inappetence, pale comb , wattles and diarrhoea. Chicks with coccidiosis have a hunched appearance, droopy wings and the chicks appear sleepy. The effect of coccidiosis in chicks could result in acute epidemic, wasting and sudden death.
The effect of coccidiosis on birds has huge impact on the production rate of the birds because of how the parasite affects the intestines and the resultant effect on feed absorption , conversion and weight gain.
Coccidiosis in early stages of chick development impairs absorption and utilization of feed ,which compromises the growth of the birds and feed conversion. This results in high production cost because more feed will be required to meet market size.
The exposure of chicks to live vaccine early in production will protect birds by stimulating the production of protective immunity to coccidiosis by delivering uniformly low doses of live oocysts. The use of vaccination to prevent coccidiosis is a better strategy compared to in- feed anticoccidials, or oral medication of coccidiostats.
Eimeria parasite causing coccidiosis are often resistant to anticoccidial drugs, which results in sub-clinical coccidiosis often associated with in-feed anticoccidials and oral coccidiostat. Sub-clinical coccidiosis , occurs when in- feed anticoccidials lose effectiveness, thereby causing the coccidial oocyst to leak into the flock.
The effect of sub-clinical coccidiosis are increased mal-absorption,reduced effective caloric value and high production cost. The coccidiosis challenge is one that impact poultry production,so it is of paramount importance to use vaccination as a tool to prevent coccidiosis.
Vaccinate your birds against coccidiosis!!!!!. protect your birds!!!
The abattoir should be situated in well drained area with a good gradient to allow easy run off of waste.
The abattoir should be easily accessible with good roads, electricity and close proximity to market.A generator is a necessityin the abattoir, with good supply of portable water. The abattoir should be fitted with overhead rails which have water hose and sprinklers to wash carcass at every slaughtering stage. The walls are tilled to allow easy cleaning and disinfection, the floor is made of cement or concrete so that its easy to wash and disinfect.
Raising pigs for profit can be more profitable if a mini abattoir or slaughter house is incorporated in the production chain. A very simple procedure with the use of pulleys/
levers can be used to slaughter pigs in an hygienic way with minimal exposure to contamination.
The skin of the pig is not removed as this is eaten along with the meat, with the skin intact much of the meat is not exposed.
The hair on the skin is removed by scalding in hot tanks which is at a temp of 60-62°c.
The simple sketch shows how the slaughtering is carried out, at the end of the slaughtering process, the carcass are passed on to the processing room, where the cut parts are packed into clean bags for sale.
